Our April Military Member of the Months is Jennifer Marshall. Jennifer served in the Navy from 1999-2004 as an AK-2 (Aviation Logistics), which is now known as an LS-2. She served 2 ½ years at San Nicholas Island and then 2 ½ years on the USS Theodore Roosevelt, which is a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier. Jennifer even met her husband after she was assigned to the USS Roosevelt!
Jennifer’s ship, along with the USS Harry S Truman, were the first aircraft carriers to support Operation Iraqi Freedom in early 2003. Her first deployment to sea was actually in support of OIF and she was thrown into the fire with an extremely high op tempo. Her ship and the USS Truman were launching and landing jets every thirty seconds during their shifts. One ship would run missions during the day and the other at night.
Since leaving the Navy Jennifer has done a lot of amazing things. She double majored in International Politics and Spanish at Virginia Wesleyan University with a minor in History. She will also be completing her Masters in Administration of Justice from American Military University in May of 2018.
Along with educating herself, Jennifer visited Uganda in 2013 and 2014 and has since paid for the schooling of two children that she met with during her visits. She also delivers meals to the elderly and is involved with the non-profit Pinups for Vets. She has done all of these things while being a wife, mother and actress! You may have even seen her in season 2 of Stranger Things!
Hats off to Jennifer Marshall for showing what a hard-working veteran can do to succeed in civilian life and also help people all over the world!
