Military Member of the Month Weston Scott
Our High Caliber Community Military Member of the Month (#MMoM ) for January 2018 is Weston Scott. Weston served in the Marine Corp from 1994-1998 as an 0341 Mortarman. Although Weston was the first to say, “There are way better examples of HCC members to mention,” here’s why we chose him.
After receiving an honorable discharge from the corps Weston went on to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in film and television production in Michigan. He then moved out to Hollywood, CA to pursue a career in television and film production. The transition wasn’t easy for Scott. He slept on couches and in his van for quite some time until he could make enough money to rent a room in an apartment. “7-11 hot dogs and $1 menus were key to survival then,” Scott said laughing. He took work wherever he could find it in a constant effort to pursue his dream of working in the industry. Through persistence and a never quit attitude instilled by the Corps, his hard work eventually paid off when he was given an opportunity by a Ret. SGTMAJ to work with fellow Marines for a film and television military technical advising company.
“From the time I started in the entertainment industry, it always seemed like there was some part of my training from the Corps that was being applied to my daily hustle out here. Because of another Marine helping me out, I was able to get my foot in the door.” Since that time Scott has always felt a need to support and give back to his military brethren. Now a veteran in the entertainment industry, Scott has used his influence and opportunities to hire hundreds of veterans in Hollywood to work alongside of him over the years. From working as a Technical Advisor on some of the biggest films in Hollywood to Producing and being an On-Air Talent, Weston Scott continues to have a positive impact on the veteran entertainment community.
Weston is not our MMM just because he did something unique, cool, and challenging after leaving the Corps. It is mostly because of his continued contributions to our veteran community. From caregiving for WW2 veterans on a weekly basis and charity work to working with Motorcycle VSO’s Weston Scott has revolved his life behind the scenes around helping his military brethren.
