Military Member of the Month Eli Smith
From rattlesnakes in the shower to sleeping in stranger’s homes; even people trying to kidnap him on the side of a desolate road in Texas – Eli Smith, 4 Corners Hike, has seen it all, and not just all parts of the country.
Eli is on a mission to walk to each corner of this nation. Believe it or not, he’s not just walking across the county for fun. He’s doing it for a big purpose – to remember and raise awareness for the brothers and sisters we’ve lost to PTSD.
Eli was motivated to start his trek across the country after losing a couple great friends to suicide – something many of us are all too familiar with. But he’s not doing this alone. Friends, family (and even strangers) have been inspired to follow his journey to all four corners and have been supporting him in any way they can; from giving food, hot showers places to sleep and donating money.
Eli has some amazingly unbelievable stories from this journey; like the time he ran into a black bear in Oregon and sleeping at an abandoned elementary school in Northern California. You can check in with Eli on his Facebook page, 4CornersHike. Today, he is scheduled to be departing Susanville, California and heading to Seattle before heading east – on his way to Maine.
4,600 miles on foot so far, 13 pairs of shoes and breaking world records. This is definitely a journey to support and follow. He’s on a mission to do something big, and you can support by sharing his story or donating to his mission on the website: www.4cornershike.org
